SMA female connector to the Baofeng UV-5R.
Baofeng UV-5R has SMA male connector on the radio for connecting to the antenna. This requires the antenna or coax to have a SMA female connector.
For Baofeng UV-5R first time power-on NOAA weather station WXL96 was selected.
Go to NOAA to find a NWR station to listen to.
WXL96 in Salem, OR is a strong station based on past experience.

Notes
The distance to WXL96 is 66.9 miles.
The below Google Earth elevation profile shows a clear signal path above the valley floor.
Note, the elevation profile is reverse from the red map line. In other words, left side is WA9ONY and the right side is WXL96.
This is a good example of VHF line-of-sigh communications.
