Amateur Astronomy
by Charlie Williams
Astronomy projects you into the center of a spectacular, constantly changing, vibrantly beautiful universe. Survey it in the company of friends and family or it explore it yourself.
First you take astronomy out of the textbook and make it a hands-on pastime that's enjoyable, exciting and rewarding. Active
amateur astronomy is a fascinating endeavor that in recent years has become one of the most popular leisure activities related to science.
Unlike professional astronomy with it's arrays of sophisticated equipment, technical jargon, computers and heavy emphasis on mathematics, amateur astronomy focuses on a broad appreciation of our cosmic environment requiring nothing more than a general understanding of optics, occasional simple arithmetic and some leisure time to spend under the starry night sky. There's nothing magical or mysterious about astronomy and it's workings, although some books you may have seen might have given you that impression.
