Unaided Eye Essential Observing Equipment
Unaided eye observing equipment can range from no equipment to night lights, charts, chairs, table, etc.
Observing equipment is divided into the essentials for a beginner and
nice to have observing equipment.
Night Light
- A dim night-light for reading star charts and writing notes that is used during an observing session.
- Quick and low cost: Take a flashlight and cover the front with paper and
place a rubber band or tie a string around the paper and flashlight to hold the paper over the front.
Unaided Eye Star Chart
- A star chart to locate stars, constellations and unaided eye deep sky objects. Unaided eye star charts comes in many forms: monthly star charts in books and magazines, planisphere and planetarium software.
- Quick and low cost:
- Go to star chart Web site to make a chart.
- Down load a freeware planetarium software like Home Planet by John Walker.
- Go to the library to check out an astronomy magazine with a unaided eye star chart.
